Nowadays government has banned smoking in public places but the number of smoking still increasing. This is detrimental to health of the smokers and the public. Smoking has been known to contribute to tuberculosis, heart attack, high blood pressure and cancer. The effort to educate smokers about the dangers of smoking has been held through campaigns, advertisements and each box of cigarettes has stamped the effect of smoke picture. Furthermore each box of cigarettes is also required by law to carry the warning that smoking is bad for health. However, the warning has gone unheeded and turn a deaf ear.
To make matters worst, smokers not only harm themselves but also the people around them with the smoke. These people are called passive smokers. Passive smokers inhale the smoke released by smokers and may have the diseases mentioned earlier though they have never smoked a single cigarettes in their lives.Passive smokers are actually innocent victims of the smokers inconsiderate behaviour.Smoking is also wasting of money. Long-term smokers may spend up to RM10 a day to satisfy their longing for a puff. With 365 days in a year, that would mean that they would have spent RM3,650 a year on cigarettes. This money could be put to use such as for their children's education or for rainy days. Smoking is a pernicious habit. So let us hand in hand to fight the smoking habits.
